Strings for Kids Classes
Violin 1
Ages 5-12
This class focuses on learning to hold the instrument correctly, developing professional form, reading music, and preparing pieces for performance. Classes are limited to 8 students per class such that students will receive proper personal attention.
This class is for elementary and middle school students with no or little experience with playing Violin. Students are required to participate in a winter and spring concert.

Violin 2

This class is a continuation of Violin I with more difficult pieces and new techniques. Classes are limited to 10 students per class such that students will receive proper personal attention.
This class is for students who have graduated from Violin I or for newcomers at the same level. Students are required to participate in a winter and spring concert.
Audition required for new students.

Violin 3
Ages 5-13
This class focuses on mastery of beginner violin technique, reading music comfortably in first position, preparing pieces for performance, and an introduction to ensemble playing. Classes are limited to 12 students per class such that students will receive proper personal attention.
This class is for students who have graduated from Violin 2 or for newcomers at the same level. Students are required to participate in a winter and spring concert.
Audition required for new students.

Training Ensemble
Age 15 and under
CYMG’s Training Ensemble is for string players who have graduated from Violin 2 or Cello 2, or for newcomers at the same level. This class is split into orchestra parts, thus giving students an introduction to ensemble playing and plenty of practice reading music.
Training Ensemble will perform in a winter and spring concert in addition to possible community performances throughout the year.
Class placement is by audition/invitation only.
Wednesdays 6-7pm
Classes meet at a private home in Highland Park

Apprentice Ensemble
Age 16 and under
CYMG Apprentice Ensemble is for string players under the age of 16 who have auditioned and have been selected.

Students are required to participate in a winter and spring concert and community performance opportunities.

The mandatory semester-end concerts provide students the opportunities to experience the power they hold to express themselves through music. All CYMG students in our program should have this experience, and this is one of the best places where their families and the community can support them.
Need Financial Aid?
Students may be eligible for discounted tuition and/or instrument rental depending on financial need. CYMG Financial Aid Application and supporting documents must be submitted at least ONE WEEK prior to the first day of class.
